InnoROBE - Innovative Regenerative On-Board Energy Converter
A potential solution for the existing range issue with electric vehicles is to supply electric energy and heat locally, through small autonomous energy converters using renewable fuels (on-board charging systems), which makes it possible, in the introductory phase, to additionally use smaller and thus more cost-efficient batteries. Innovative thermal management concepts contribute to this as they use heat for range extension and are presented in this project for the first time. The project researches two different concepts of on-board charging systems: a fuel cell system (Fuel Cell (FC) with corresponding DCDC converter and a combustion engine (Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)) with generator and inverter. Both systems can be operated with renewable fuels, for example renewable methane for ICE systems or hydrogen for FC systems.
