A documentary film investigating and recreating my late father's race from London to Paris in 1959, that won the hearts of an enthralled nation.
How quickly can you get from Marble Arch, London, to Arc de Triomphe in Paris?
On July 13th 1959 my late father, Brigadier "Red Rory" Walker OBE MC, used a motorbike, a helicopter and a jet to set the astonishing time of 57 minutes, 47 seconds. Assisted by his SAS colleagues, Red Rory was the first competitor to kick off the twelve day race, and was at the forefront of the French and British national event.
I am making a documentary film about the journey, and attempting to recreate his race, using the same transport, route and equipment. I will also be talking with his old colleagues and discovering the hidden tales of an inspirational leader.
