Long Shot was a Jamaican racehorse and he was far from a champion, but he had so much stamina and endurance that he ran 202 races. On May 29, 1969 at Caymanas Park, Long Shot was involved in a collision with another horse while hugging the rail down the last straight of the race, and later died.

Being big horse racing fans, The Pioneers immortalised the episode in this song, 'Long Shot KIck Da Bucket', which was a big hit for them in the same year.
