RUPTURES is a triptych video installation that re-frames within the scope of one hundred years the recent history of Ethiopia starting with the 1896 glorious victory at Adwa against Italian invaders, and ending in 2005 with the images of gleaners at the Addis Ababa trash dump. Thirteen vignettes, synchronized to be read vertically as well as horizontally, are projected on three screens, providing viewers a close-up experience of this history as they stand before and/or move around the images.
