San Francisco, in the Department of Antioquia, is one of Colombia's most conflict-affected communities. Guerrillas and paramilitaries have fought in the region for decades, and countless civilians are victimized by the conflict.

An American NGO, Survivor Corps, and Colombian organizations Fundacion para la Reconciliacion and Corporacion Conciudadania, are confronting the problem by empowering both civilians and former combatants to work together to break the cycle of violence.

The work is funded by the United States Institute of Peace, the Government of Norway, and individual contributions.
