Times of Darkness depicts the conditions under which women lived in Norway during the Second World War, and the contribution made by them; women’s everyday encounters with the German war machine and their opposition to it, their imprisonment, torture and deportation to a foreign country. The film mixes three modes: interviews with ten women who participated in the resistance, archive material, and dramatization of a number of wartime episodes. The result is a collective portrait of women fighting against injustice, brutality and oppression.
Times of Darkness awarded Amanda for Best Norwegian Documentary
In addition, actor Janne Cokine was nominated for best actress.
In 1997 at the Nordic Glory festival in Finland, Karoline Frogner was awarded Best Nordic Female Director.
