The Crux of Collaboration: How CANARIE and BCNET Are Working Together to Help the Higher Education Community Increase Their Use of Shared Services
The higher education community is under pressure to deliver enhanced IT services with a shrinking resource pool and expanding requirements for security and privacy. They know they need to share common IT services under a comprehensive trust framework – but how?
CANARIE, the operator of Canadian Access Federation, and BCNET are working together to develop the processes, policies and technologies to enable the higher education community to reap maximum benefits from federated solutions.
To move towards this goal, CANARIE has developed an innovative new tool – the IdP Installer – that facilitates the technical activities required to join the federation. In addition, the CANARIE is in the process of developing a Federation Manager tool, which will enable partners like BCNET to manage the implementation of local security and privacy policies across the BC college community.
The leverage of local and national strengths and expertise, and the drive to move quickly to solutions have been the hallmarks of this collaboration. Come and learn more about how this approach will drive process and cost efficiencies to BC’s higher education community.
