A Masterpiece Revealed is a 5 chapter documentary that tells the interesting story of a 17th century painting re-discovered at Meadow Brook Hall and conserved by the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Chapter 4/5 focuses on the artist's language and the other Spanish paintings in the DIA's European Medieval to Renaissance Art. Students and professors from Oakland University discuss the unique experience being part of the process in the conservation labs.
Painting is a language, which to fully appreciate must be experienced in person. “The Infant Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness” joins other Murillo masterpieces in the DIA’s European Medieval to Renaissance Art collection. Discover what caught DIA curator Salvador Salort-Pons’ eye in this Murillo masterpiece and learn from conservator Tom Dickinson about the important process of frame conservation.
