DAVID LOVEJOY: I have worked as a maker and designer since the early 1980’s. My successful career in graphic design supported a long and leisurely arts education at several schools and studios, focusing on ceramics and design.
I am known primarily for my assemblage and installation work, in which I repurpose existing artifacts and fragments, arranging them to form new compositions. The objects I make are tied to the thread of surrealism.
While I use a variety of materials in my artmaking, my methodology is consistent. In my assemblage, I tend to work from the outside in, spontaneously gathering and placing objects to develop a story. I think of my installations as a snapshot of an alternate time or an alternate history.
