The source of this footage, John McClure, was a member of the San Diego Jr. Chamber of Commerce and sports car fan and driver. His position with the Chamber put him in a position to combine his passions as part of the team that developed the Torrey Pines Race Course. Thankfully, John also carried a camera around with him for races up and down the West Coast.
This footage is from the October 1956 running of the Pomona Road Races. This off-camber turn that is seen in much of the clip looks like a blast! Lot's of oversteer and drift happening there.
Keep your eyes peeled for the weekend's class winners:
Bill Eschrich in the Porsche powered Lotus #159
Bill Murphy in the Buick-Kurtis Special #6
Jim Moore in the #72 Porsche Super
Howard Wheeler in the #7 OSCA
Ruth Levy won the women's race in the #253 Porsche Speedster
Bob Drake took the main event in the #131 Aston-Martin
