AH23
AH23 is a project under construction that includes different kinds of drifts. Born as a dance performance conceived for a traditionally frontal audience, AH23 is based on an exact and repeatable choreographic score that is always consistent (AH23: vimeo.com/9727123); however, the execution dynamics is contaminated by a performative attitude seeking to observe the place, which shifts the boundaries of dance by adapting them to the suggested solutions, be they theatrical, urban or different ones. The project consequently emerges as an open container that takes on various nuances of meaning and atmosphere, suggested by space and acting conditions. Therefore, the duration of the performance changes according to the circumstances.
32 - 1 studio x AH23
The video that you can watch here is an abstract of a study in an urban environment from AH23, entitled 32 - 1 studio per AH23. The project lasts 40 minutes and has to be considered an example of the various possibilities in formulating the performative project.
In December 2009 the title of AH23 becomes 32 – 1 studio x AH23; the play is now conceived to be performed inside the shop window of a carpet and sofa shop. The choreographic score lives within a space that is set far apart from the audience through a glass. The play thus seeks a link to the surrounding space through a back and forth movement between in-and outside. The White Rabbit remains seated on the sofa, exposed to gaze like a fixed and unchanging icon, while the dancer dismantles the performative structure alternating gestures and nucleuses of a priori set movements with exits into urban reality. Entering some of the nearby shops allows the performer to bring along to the shop window scene fragments of everyday life, in the shape of objects coming from outside. Furthermore, passers-by who by chance stop in front of the shop window become a part of the performative play, unconsciously offering themselves to the gaze of the audience.
