This reel was created during an all-day Direct Animation workshop held at the Visual Arts Center as part of their signature program, Focus Group. Filmmakers Rachel Stuckey and Lee Webster, led a workshop that explored cameraless animation. This form of animation, also known as direct animation, involves the application of materials directly onto 16mm filmstrips, which results in gorgeous, abstract animations. Preceded by a short screening and a brief lecture on the history of the medium, the all-day workshop demonstrated how to draw, paint, etch, and collage directly onto 16mm film to create beautiful and rhythmic moving pictures.
This reel was created by the day's participants (in alphabetical order): Kimberly De Loera, Philip Fagan, Vanessa Gelvin, Kendra Jones, Martha Jones, Ayshea Khan, Mala Kumar, Madli Lane, Michael Madden, Chris McConnell, Federico Moreno, Lindsay Palmer, George Pasterk, Barbara Reyes, Susan Scafti, Randy P.
