A quick tour around the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.
A bucket list race, involving a dive off the San Francisco Belle into the cold water and swimming the 1.5miles from Alcatraz Island back to shore and the St. Francis Yacht Club. A half mile run take them to T1. Jumping on the bikes, it's a 18mile out and back course, heading out towards the Golden Gate Bridge, up through the Presidio, up to Palace of the Legion of Honour, then down the hill to Seal Rock Drive. From there it's into the Golden Gate Park for a loop before returning the same way you came all the way back to T2.
The run starts with a 2mile flat section from T2 following the water front, again heading towards the Golden Gate Bridge. Then you hit the first lot of steps and continue to climb, running on the track parallel to the bike course. Following the coast, veer off down the track to Baker Beach where theres a lovely section of sand running before reaching the Sand Ladder. Up the ladder and continue up back to the top of the Presidio, but then it's all down hill with a tail wind to the finish!
