Forge Media + Design was challenged to create an intuitive and dynamic wayfinding experience in one of HBC Centre's busiest corridors. This narrow space leading out of the parking garage into one of Toronto's top tier and centralized shopping malls posed many challenges. To assist patrons in finding their way through the cavernous and complex retail destination, Forge developed a stylish housing for a solution that utilized 3 separate screens that were combined into one fluid interface. Each display served a distinct purpose – a store directory with built in wayfinding, real time date, time, and weather data, and advertising space to generate revenue, as well as highlight events and promotions. The interface's colour palette automatically changes seasonally to ensure that the installation remains fresh and properly reflects the season.
A mobile web app was created to allow users to take a specific route to a desired destination with them, through the use of QR codes, forgoing the need to download a native app. The web app utilizes the smart phone's browser, making this mobile directory fully cross compatible with any platform. The finished product has modernized a drab space with a stylish facelift, offering an intuitive tool for patrons to successfully find their way to their desired destination.
