There are 24 nationalities, all sorts of colours, white, black, olive, brown, and even some orange people in our minority group, the fake tanners. We’re people from all sorts of background from those who have battled with homelessness to those who have found it difficult to embrace the Kingdom because of wealth. Open our eyes to God’s creation, and you’ll see an amazing variety of shapes, styles and colours. God isn’t monochrome. God is a community. God one, yet three. God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Even within the Godhead there is unity, equality, with diversity of function. As a church for everyone, united in Jesus we’re uniquely reflecting God’s handiwork. That’s a great vision, however from the birth of the church, this calling to be for everyone has caused immense pressure and at times even conflict. The result of persecution in Jerusalem of those who were from a Jewish background led them to plant churches everywhere they were scattered. At Antioch, in Syria, on the coast of the Mediterranean they start reaching the Gentiles with the Good News. And all sorts of barriers are being broken, culturally, racial, colour and political. Kingdom eyes don’t see colour, class, ethnicity, gender or anything else when it comes to welcoming others into the family.
