The typeface Meristematic evolved from the concept of plant growth and structural change within plant systems. The main focus of this was meristems, a type of plant tissue that gives plants the ability to grow and regenerate through cell division. Meristem tissue is also responsible for the directing cells to their spatial location. To replicate this complex system, Meristematic was produced using repetitive patterns and precise rules made possible by modern technology. Similar to the intricate structure of plants, Meristematic’s true beauty and complexity can only be appreciated when magnified. Therefore, Meristematic is most successful when used as a display typeface on websites, music videos and online magazines. ‘Meristematic in Motion’ uses digital media to explore the limits of line manipulation while displaying the distinctive detail of each letterform.
