Burning Man: The Experimental City
Shot on an iPhone at Burning Man.
This film collage is meant to evoke the sporadic hyper-sensory and temporal experience of traveling across Black Rock City, during day, night, and dusk. Attending the largest "Leave No Trace" event in America, Burners are expected to be environmentally conscious and provide for themselves, a far-cry from most contemporary festival culture. The environmental conditions presented in the Black Rock Desert are scorching and harsh during the day but full of opportunity and wonder at night. When more than fifty-thousand people converge in the desert inspired by common intentions, a community centered around environmentalism, art, and all things weird is built and rebuilt—the "default world" could stand to learn from the many experiments occurring in this desert city once a year.
