In July 2013, DISCOVER FOOTBALL hosted the international football festival and tournament in Berlin for women from the Middle East and North Africa. The uprisings across this region have provided new opportunities for women to claim political and social space, including in the world of sports. Together with women players and football experts from MENA countries, as well as the German public, we wanted to examine the connection between women's struggle for the right to play and the larger fight for equality and social integration. With our tournament, we intend to recognize the work of these teams and cheer on their talented players. Alongside the games, we offered a diverse cultural program that included concerts, film screenings, discussions and a special program just for girls.
