yesterday was one of the harder days that we've had so far. When we weren't facing ominous clouds and pelting rain, we were climbing inclines that were a far cry from our familiar Midwest plains. It was definitely not a day to slack off. Ultimately, despite the constant barrage from the elements, we managed to make it 91.6 miles (though it wasn't without several breaks in the RV while we waited out storms).
Some pretty cool highlights:
- At one of our stops along the route, we encountered an elderly woman who insisted on giving us an on-the-spot donation toward the cause!
- Our unofficial coach, Christian Vande Velde, coincidentally decided to call and check in/give us a pep talk at one of the more demoralizing points of the day (we were waiting out a storm in the RV). It was great to see a familiar face and to hear his advice on how to get through the day.
- Brian saved a family of turtles who were crossing the road. Because, why not?
