Blackmagic Pocket Camera (BMPC) Remote Control from your PC.
LANC Framework for BMPC developed for the puppet play project "Peregrinação" (Lafontana & Teatro de São João in Co-production).
The main goal was to develop a framework to control the IRIS/FOCUS on the BMPC remotely from an application called QLAB which provides show control. Unfortunately ZOOM is not yet implemented in LANC by BlackMagic in their cameras.
We made a special circuit board for Arduino after prototyping the main sketch to manage three cameras in real-time. The software in the Arduino interprets MIDI messages converting them to LANC signals. In this way, we can use any MIDI console or virtual MIDI software to control the cameras.
OSC protocol was another choice, but we use Arduino duemilnove which doesn't provide physical ethernet support in the original board.
- QLAB sends the control messages using a virtual MIDI interface (PC/CC);
- Hairless-MIDI receives the messages and converts them in Serial-packets to be sent via the Serial-Port;
- Arduino reads the messages from the Serial-Port and converts them to Hexadecimal and to Binary.
- The messages are sent to the BMPC via the LANC protocol using electric pulses.
