Dr. Ellen Davis speaks about the importance of scripture for the life of Episcopalians in North America and beyond.
Purpose & Context:
The aim of the ‘New Tracts for Our Times’ project is to “to communicate – clearly, compellingly – what The Episcopal Church believes and does, to ‘show and tell’ our way of faith and our way of life.” We intend to create a series of 5-8 minute videos on specific topics (e.g., the Eucharist, Scripture, etc.) with everyday Episcopalians addressing and exemplifying what we believe and how that belief shapes they way we live. The videos are intended to be evangelical in the first instance, catechetical in the second. That is to say, they are primarily intended for those who are completely unfamiliar with and uninterested in the Christian tradition as it has been received and is practiced in The Episcopal Church. The language in these videos should accordingly avoid unnecessarily off-putting jargon and should presume the audience has little to no prior knowledge of the subject matter. What’s more, the aim of the videos is neither solely nor even primarily didactic. It is meant to be absorbing, persuasive, and above all inviting. We want the ‘nones’ of our generation to, if you will, hear and see that the Lord is good. The videos will also be intended for use in a parochial context, as a brief introduction for catechesis on various aspects of church life.
