With Shedd Aquarium since 1989, Ken Ramirez, executive VP of animal care and animal training, develops and supervises animal care programs, staff training and development, and public presentations for their entire collection. A 35+ year veteran of animal care and training, Ken is a biologist, animal behaviorist who spent time at Marineworld of Texas, at Ocean Safari, South Padre Island, Texas, as well as consulting to many zoos and aquariums globally. He began working with guide dogs, has maintained a close affiliation to pet training and hosted two successful seasons of the pet training TV series Talk to the Animals. He works closely with several search and rescue dog organizations and with explosive and narcotic detection dogs. Ken has been active in several professional organizations, e.g., IMATA as a past president. He is on the faculty of Karen Pryor╒s Clicker Expos and also teaches a graduate course on animal training at Western Illinois University. Ramirez has written for numerous scientific publications and popular articles and the book, ANIMAL TRAINING (1999).
