In McAllen, Texas, there is a 33 acre plume in a south residential neighborhood. The plume rests in between the soil's surface and the water table and has been found to contain traces of benzene. Benzene is the same chemical that caused a massive explosion in Guadalajara and killed hundreds of innocent residents. Because the exact cause of the plume has not been pinpointed, the residents have not received just compensation. Sarah Chavez, a local student and peaceful activist is leading a charge to initiate action to force the responsible parties to clean up the plume.
