Ir Order of Appearance
How much of visual information are we capable of perceiving in details and nuances? In this work I'm most of all interested in revealing invisible in things that we already know well, when our ideas of images and stories are replacing the imagery itself. 20 minutes of the video work contain 4 screens of movies, re-edited only with movements and transitions from world-knowm film classics — "Dolce Vita", "A Bout de Souffle", "L'eclisse" and "Persona".
"In Order of Appearance" is a project devoted to non-visible cinema that is taken out of legendary images of film classics for several generations. The light turn of Anouk Aimee, walking manner of Marcello Mastroianni, wave of Monica Vitti's hand, movements of Liv Ullmann — all these images are taken out of context, dramaturgy and narrative and collected in a separated self-valuable visual story. We have a possibility to watch their tiny actions and semitone changes and register the division from textualized film scenario.
The viewer who enters the exhibition space is involved in interaction with moving images without awareness and resonates with all sustained figures starting to move slower to see the installation. Thus movements on the screen form a unique connection with the audience's movement in space. On this side of the screen we unwillingly move and participate with translucent actions, snatched out of history of a moving image.
