How does eating a sandwich outside of your home or walking to the train with a friend result in hundreds of dollars of fines, summons, inability to go to school and arrests? As a team, Art & Activism students have created stop motion animations. These feature students’ voices narrating personal accounts of times they were unfairly treated by New York City police officers while simply trying to walk in their neighborhoods.
In partnership with PROP (Police Reform Organizing Project) & CAN (Campus Action Network) ROADS students' artwork highlights how unjust policing affects their daily lives, educational pursuits, perceptions of self and goals for the future. We stand in peaceful protest of abusive policing and aim to stimulate meaningful conversations that lead to better partnerships between all citizens and the police force that aims to protect and serve.
