In a world where grinding poverty remains, we are increasingly slaves to comfort. Our material ease breeds spiritual apathy. In contrast, Jesus announces freedom to those who recognise their need for Him.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
A challenge to seriously consider own our neediness for the Messiah; and to respond to Jesus’ grace by being compassionate and generous in the face of desperate physical, social and spiritual need in our day.
