More than half of human infectious diseases are caused by pathogens shared with animals. Human changes to the environment—changing how land is used, changing the way people and animals move across the globe, and changing the climate—may be making it easier for these disease-causing microorganisms to jump from animals to people. This episode is by Jessica Fields, a former undergraduate in Kate Smith's lab at Brown University (katherinefsmith.com/).
