This structure is located in the historic world heritage city of Bath. It is one of many which were situated across Great Britain. The dome shape at the base of the gas holder, is the top of a huge storage tank that could rise to the very top when full of gas. Built in Victorian times, to hold the gas which was originally made from coal. From the 1970's Britain began using natural gas supplies and this type of storage became unnecessary. Slowly they are being dismantled.
