It’s not often creatives think about consumption or garbage when they’re making art. In this video, culture, place and data play an instrumental role in communicating solutions that will connect the residents in a meaningful way to the waste stream they created.
Trash Talk examines how a day’s waste from a single dumpster can be used to provoke art and design students into discussion and multilateral thinking about how choice and actions influence each other. Nine projects were developed that culminated into a presentation of performance pieces and lecture.
The three Trash Talk video documentaries produced by Amanda Decker and Ayaka Terakawa and narrated by Kit McCallister are a culmination of work produced by students of the ART 399 Studio Collective at Portland State University taught by Professor Chris North.
