Just got my new Canon 50mm 1.8 lens and what better way to put it through its paces than with some night shooting? The first couple of shots are with the 50 but then I shot most of the rest with the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC.
I love the 50 but on a crop body, it acts more like a portrait lens than a walk around lens. For run and gun, I much prefer the Tamron 17-50 as that gives me a pretty good range and decent low light capabilities. Still, the 50mm is quite the bargain and the image is worth the trouble it takes to frame your shot as you'll see in the clip. It really jumps off the page! My next prime is definitely going to be in the 30mm range though. The 50 is just too long for casual shooting.
Over all though, I'm pretty happy with the low light capabilities of the camera. The colors stay true and the picture, while noisy, is still appealing. This camera just keeps exceeding my expectations.
