Remember is a short film I created, dedicated to my gramps, Bill Hayes. Our family lost Bill when I was just in grade three, and while its been 15 years since he passed, and my direct memories of him are few, those that I do have I hold close to my heart.
Initially this short film was simply a school project, however once this concept started growing for me I wanted to make it something much more than that. I chose to shoot the final shots of this piece at the very location at which we scattered Bill's ashes, as it's a place of true beauty and of high importance both to him and to our family. It holds incredibly high emotional value and it meant a lot to me to really make this something my whole family could enjoy.
Originally, the concept of Remember was created as a much shorter, 9 shot film as a school project, starring Chris Marius Jones. However I felt as I edited that film that the concept was important enough to me that I wished to develop it into something more elaborate, using my brother as the subject and then sharing it with my father as it would be something special in honor of his dad.
Special thanks to Nigel Goodwin for creating such a fantastic musical piece, based off the original concept he created for Remember 1.0 and incorporating themes of Amazing Grace.
This entire video was shot utilizing Magic Lantern on my 5D MKIII with RAW video.
