It was time for a change.
We made a SCRUM board late last summer at Total Attorneys in Chicago, specifically to keep track of projects related to the Total Impact House. The house, located in the Gulu region of Uganda, is a place for women who escaped sex slavery to rebuild their lives.
The women are taking classes, learning trades and putting a horrific past behind them. Since late last summer, we have worked to raise money for the Impact House and also to communicate with the women, through letters, a scrapbook and video messages.
Our original SCRUM board wasn't quite focused enough. Then again, maybe we weren't either. This new board will only have a few specific and active projects on it at a time. We also will be able to use the board as a centerpiece for artwork of a sort. It includes a chalk board for comments, a painting made for a past event, a pouch where people can leave notes with suggestions, an area for photographs and a time line of our different events and efforts.
So far we have completed two of the four original tasks placed on the board, and put a great deal of resources and effort into a third project, which will be a fundraiser in Chicago.
The board itself is a sign that we are learning more about the best way we can help the women in Uganda from our home in Chicago.
The video will be posted on a blog that is tracking the whole experience both in Chicago and in Uganda.
