The 100th Commencement Ceremony for the Classes of 2014 was held on May 30 at the Claude R. Kirk, Jr. Auditorium on FSDB campus, just after the Senior Awards Ceremony. FSDB President Dr. Jeanne Glidden Prickett gave a warm welcome to the two graduating classes and their families, congratulating them on their achievements.
Commencement speakers were Gerard Buckley, Ed.D., President of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Vice President of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, and Enrique Oliu, Spanish Radio Broadcaster for the Tampa Bay Rays and Interviewer/Alternate Interpreter for the office of the Public Defender in Hillsboro County, Florida. Dr. Buckley and Mr. Oliu, a 1980 FSDB alumnus, shared words of inspiration to seniors from across the state of Florida.
Special honors were bestowed upon valedictorian Jason Miles Antal (St. Augustine) and salutatorian Vada Nicole Paglinawan Casorla (Kissimmee) of the Deaf High School Class of 2014, as well as valedictorian Chance Deon Jackson (Palatka) and salutatorian Kyle Joseph McCreath (Gainesville) of the Blind High School Class of 2014. Both valedictorians addressed their respective classes.
