On June 19, 2014, I hiked from Mt. Rainier's White River campground (elev 4200') to the top of Steamboat Prow (9700'). This year's snow levels allowed me to don skis at Glacier Basin (5900') and skin to the top of the Prow. After soaking in fabulous vistas at Steamboat Prow, the snow was soft enough at 11:45 AM to start the descent, taking me less than 15 minutes to cover the 3800' vertical back to Glacier Basin. This is my first year branching out from lift skiing to touring. Skis rule!
