PAULIE STEWART GOES WILD! Painters & Dockers perform 'The Boy Who Lost His Jocks on Flinders Street Station', which is rated as the number TWO song about Melbourne on TimeOut magazine. ㋡
After two straight years of draws, The Rockdogs claimed victory at yesterday’s Reclink Community Cup. Held at Elsternwick Park in Melbourne, the annual charity match drew the largest crowd in its two-decade history, with well over 10,000 punters in attendance.
Themed “Such a Perfect Day” in honour of the late Lou Reed, the match saw a final result of 6.7.43 (Megahertz) vs. 8.4.52 (The Rockdogs). Captained by Michael Cini from Money For Rope, who replaced an injured Tim Rogers, coached by Tex Perkins and comprised of Melbourne rock royalty – including members of Bitter Sweet Kicks, Smudge, La Bastard, The Stevens, The Nation Blue, Even, The UV Race, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks and Saskwatch, among many other bands – The Rockdogs also saw new recruit Benny Walker earn the Stephen Connelly Award (Best On Ground).
The match raised over $100,000 to help Reclink Australia deliver sports and arts programs to assist disadvantaged folks nationwide. Entertainment for the day included David Bridie, Fraser A. Gorman, The Smith Street Band and Saskwatch, plus a post-match set from Painters and Dockers.
And now a message from Rockdog's Tim Rogers.
Dear Dogs, first time poster, long time lurker. Coach and i spent post-game south side, essentially smirking at eachother, knowing that we'd been a part of something very special. I've been involved in football a long, long time..the son of a player, a coach, an umpire..and myself a long time wannabe player. But THAT was a team win. I've woken up on the bad side of the floor with a smile on my chops and flashes of moments in the game. But none stronger than the smiles on yer gobs post-match. Each of you should feel so proud of what you accomplished. That HERCULEAN last quarter! Yer a wonderful bunch o dogs, and your legs, and genitals, should feel RIGHTEOUSLY sore today. Relish, dear dogs.
