An element of Double Barrel Film is to introduce alternative surfing concepts to the kids and locals of Lobitos and Peruvian surfers in general, so we teamed up with Andy Wells to create some original handmade hand planes.
Our director Angie Takanami and surfer on the Double Barrel cast Dustin Hollick called up Andy on a sunny Sunday, taking along local filmer Jy Johannesen to document the process of shaping a hand plane from start to finish, then surfing them in super fun waves.
They created eight unique hand planes from local paulownia wood, coating them in oil made from 100% natural plant oils, and Angie will take them to Peru to surf with Harold Koechlin and the local kids of Lobitos.
Four of these boards will be donated to Lobitos, the remaining four are up for grabs to the first four donators of our Kickstarter campaign who pledge $500 or more.
Double Barrel Film is all about remaining as transparent as possible in our film making process and as surfers and travellers in general. Please check out our Kickstarter page and pledge to help us kick the film off the ground:
