Opening of the NASA Carnarvon Tracking Station, 25 June 1964.

This video features the audio of the speech by The Hon (later Sir) Allen Fairhall, the Australian Minister for Supply. I added it to silent footage of the ceremony found in the CDSCC (Tidbinbilla) archives, as well as some shots of Carnarvon’s Robinson Street taken just before Gemini V in 1965.

Thanks go to Glen Nagle for the footage, to Ian Mackenzie for his S-VHS to digital transfer, to Hamish Lindsay for his audio tape containing Allen Fairhall’s speech, and to Brian Larwood for the clip of NASA Administrator James Webb from “Carnarvon Welcomes”.
