The Interior Decoration Certificate programme is available as a full-time 10-week course or for study one day a week throughout the academic year. The course focuses on the decorative aspects of interior design, the root of the interior design profession. As a student you will gain a thorough grounding in the art and practice of interior decoration, which will prepare you to work initially as a specialist member of larger interior design teams and, with experience, in your own practice. You will learn how to plan space, configure furniture layouts and recognise key historical developments and designers, through the exploration of the history of the decoration profession and its related crafts. You will learn how to interpret, use and present lighting plans, colour, fabric and decorative finishes to meet your client’s brief. There is a focus on taking a client’s instructions and analysing the brief, identifying alternative design solutions and learning to instruct the trade. Your project work leads to a portfolio of decorative schemes using both manual and computer-based methods, making you ready for client presentations.
