iLand is an interactive installation with a projection covering the complete inner surface of a geodesic dome - which is more then 200 square metres - with 5 projectors.
It represents a flying island among others in the broad internet. Like all the other virtual islands it has to deal with data spam, viruses, illegal downloads and censorship attempts.
Visitors were invited to play the roles of iLanders being able to manipulate certain aspects of their world. For this, we built five different haptic interfaces: a firewall, a spam volcano inkluding a brush-roller to clean the sky again, a steering wheel for the virtual data pirate and a remotely controlled voyeuristic trojan virus. All interactions had direct effect on the 360° projection.
We especially thank ZENDOME and L'TUR for sponsoring the dome structure.
