Mary Diane Armitage came to Alaska in 1972 with Karen Lowe to help start Dr. Ken Richardson's Ophthalmic Associates. In 1989, pediatric ophthalmologist Robert Arnold teamed up with her to address children's eye disease. The two formed the Alaska Blind Child Discovery that provided thousands of free acuity and objective pediatric eye screenings. They assisted amblyopia research with PEDIG. Diane died on June 23, 2014 at the age of 71.
