I wanted the Video to be of a teddy-bear that got lost on its way to the 'teddy bear's picnic' in the woods. Obviously this 'ted' had such an active social life that the solitude of being lost really affected her. However, the basis of the video is that in solitude we discover a 'sense of place' that only we know and only we will know. That this place is there whenever we're alone and we can't lose sight of it when busy, as in doing that we risk losing sight of ourselves. I struggled a lot with the title 'A sense of place' because, emerging from my A-levels, I'm still occasionally dazed by bright lights... despite this, I still knew that the only place I fully trusted and had always known is one inside of myself. Hence, I made my poor friend frolic like a masked monster through fields and woodland, covering her in flour, leaves, and even scrabble tiles at one point. She is so free at one point in the video that I decided I didn't want any more characters or even for her to find the rest of 'the bears' as she'd found (cheesy as it sounds) a much more valuable place. I edited the clips we made in the woods, and wrote a monologue to accompany them, which I subsequently read aloud in my room to narrate the movie. Unlike my usually much darker stuff, this film has one of the most beautiful quotes I could ever relate to myself or my understanding of a sense of place, which is "from my rotting body, flowers shall grow
and I am in them and that is eternity."
