GRAPHIC ARTS - 3D GENERATED / ENHANCED
Independent film has entered a new era, and so has the Rialto Channel. No longer just the realm for small budget productions and obscure actors, the channel now hosts cinematic features with slick production values, highlighting the need for a new brand to reflect this. Taking the newly designed logo and concept of the storyteller, we created a look that was modern and high quality. Created entirely in 3D, we envisaged an empty but tangible environment that allows the channel's stories to be told. The approach needed to be tonally in line with the channel's programming, offering films that are unconventional and multi faceted, the on air image packaged needed to speak of the stories that are told and how they are revealed.
Taking a lead from the brand's new white emphasis, our environment was created using references from the blanched out cities of Shanghai and Bangkok, pulled together to construct our Rialto brand environment. This visualized empty space is echoed throughout the entire package with our in-house designed 3D environment becoming a context to house the ID's, and all on-air graphic elements which we also designed.
For the ID's the concept of 'mis en abyme' was employed, a formal technique in which an image contains a smaller copy of itself. Using this we visually mimicked a multilayered narrative, or the concept of a story within a story - revealed as stories existing within the Rialto brand mark itself. They abstractly talk of moments captured and frozen in time, and of the stories that these hovering objects allude to.
