My first ever video edit using a GoPro and Adobe Premiere! This video was filmed and edited in April, 2009.
(Please forgive the "newbie" filming and editing techniques... you gotta start somewhere!). I posted this edit for two reasons; one, it was an amazing day of skiing and two, it provides a baseline for tracking my progress as a videographer.
This line took us two attempts. The day prior, we made an ambitious plan to start before the sun showed its face with the goal of skiing down by the time most people are going to work! However, the mountain had another plan as we were greeted near the base of the coulior with a symphony of sluff and point release avalanches across the headwall! Giving the mountain the respect it deserved, we turned around, salvaged the day and made a plan to return. Attempt two was successful, thankfully!
The Grand Daddy Coulior is located on the Icefields Parkway, Alberta on the NE aspect of Bow Peak. The 40-50 degree slope in the coulior itself is 400m+ long. From the road, you ascend roughly 800m in elevation to near 2640m. Inspired by a picture we all saw, words could not do justice to how reality left us breathless at certain moments (and not just for the lung busting ascent). I have been back since and will gladly go again!
Footage of the descent is really shaky and difficult to watch... a lesson learned in videography skills that day. Next time will be better :)
