Satan On Broadway is a musical written by Herman Williams III, Copyright 1997.
While living in Manhattan back in the 90's, I was shocked by the number of times the word sodomy appeared in the news; both in print and TV. I kept asking myself, "What's up with all this sodomy... why?" and then the next thing you know, I've got the chorus to The Sodomy Song in my head.
Well, after completing the lyrics, I asked myself again; "What the hell do you do with a song about sodomy," and that's where the idea of writing the musical came from.
In the musical, Satan bemoans how perfectly evil and greedy human beings have become, to the extent that he no longer enjoys being the ruler of Hell, because it seems humans crave sin and evil, thereby taking away his incentive to tempt them.
So he decides it's time to make up with the "Big Guy" and try to get back to Heaven. And to get on Heaven's good side, he is determined to tell the truth about life on Earth and his roll in deceiving humanity, figuring that humans are so evil they won't bother to listen.
After a whole Act of so-called truth tellin' -- Heaven's had enough, as a stairway descends from above into Hell, upon which Mary Magdalene, Archangel Michael, and the Heavenly Hoofers arrive to set the record straight. What follows is a Jets v. Sharks kind of face-off between Satan and his minions, and the denizens of Heaven. A rollicking good time ensues.
We hope to have the 18 musical numbers done by the first of the year.
