Judo is widely regarded as Japan's national sport. From April 2012 the Japanese government will make judo compulsory for school children despite the fact that in the last 30 years at least 114 students have died and more than 261 have been injured for life while practicing the sport.
Concerned parents and judo masters are raising their voices to try and get the government to reverse its decision on the compulsory participation of judo in schools.
