In this Cinema 4D tutorial, we will cover the Dress-O-Matic function of the Cloth Tag. Dress-O-Matic makes it easy to "fit" clothing around your characters. There are a few settings to adjust before pressing the Dress-O-Matic button such as setting an Initial State, setting your Poly-Seams, and adjusting the Width setting. Polygon subdivision also plays a vital role in how “tight” you cloth gets around the object.
First, we go over an example of adding a skirt to the "Lisa" model, which is a rather straight-forward process to introduce the ease of Dress-O-Matic. But how can we adapt this process into a motion graphics workflow to speed up modeling organic shapes? Could you use it to create a plaster cast, product packaging, or food wrappers? Just remember, getting a true shrinkwrap effect won’t be possible with cloth tag.
As easy as it is to create a skirt around Lisa, there are a few more challenges in trying to wrap a hamburger using a cloth simulation in Cinema 4D. After you run the cloth simulation, you could Set Initial State, delete the Cloth Tag, and then use the Brush tool to push and pull polygons where you want them. It's a question of how tedious this process might be for your model. As with most seemingly automatic features, it will get you eighty to ninety percent of the end result.
