The Kurds are the largest, stateless group of people in the world. After decades of suppression it is the civil war in Syria that may be offering them a chance for autonomy. The Syrian army has withdrawn from Kurdish territory – will the Kurdish dream of freedom come true at last?
Guillem Valle was born in Barcelona in 1983. While still studying, he documented the Palestinian Intifada. Third Prize 2011 World Photo for a portrait of a Sudanese of the Dinka tribe. The reportage is taken with a Leica M9 in the border region between Turkey and Syria.
