One of our clients wanted to do something special for nurses week. We worked with them to help highlight a number of nurses from different service lines within the hospital to talk about why they love what they do.
This was a fun shoot for two reasons, first of all we were able to compose a number of really beautiful shots. My personal favorite is Kristen, from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. I really like the composition and the way that the lines of the window frames run down the hallway.
Normally on interview shots we'll use a zoom lens so we can reframe the subject during the interview. We have a Nikon 17-55 which we like because it pairs well wit our Panasonic AF100 camera. But since we had so much b-roll and so many interview subjects in the video we decided it might be nice to try a prime lens (meaning it has a fixed focal length). We used a 35 mm nikon 1.8 and I think the results were really nice. The background fell off into a nice blur while the subject stayed crisply focused.
Hoping we'll be able to use this technique on future shoots as well.
