CH Dron Hospital serves as the principal hospital for the population of Lille, Roubaix, and Tourcoing in the northeast of France. The maternity ward, facing competition from private health centers, held a competition to update its look in the name of providing a more receptive, uplifting, and playful atmosphere.
Damien Bonnaud and I entered the competition by proposing an overall theme of children's drawings. After winning the competition, we worked with the maternity ward staff and hospital directors over the course of a year. The design focuses on reinterpreting children's drawings in two ways. The first being as repetitive motifs, which are mixed and matched throughout the space, creating a dialogue between characters. The second is as smooth contour lines of gigantically large-scaled animals.
Realization took two weeks and its inauguration was October 6th, 2006.
