GlassNotes is a musical instrument for everyone, combining hands-on craftsmanship with technological innovation. As three ITP (NYU Tisch) students, we - Fu, Nico Hsieh, and Khairani Barokka - used wood and glass as well as Flash animation, an Arduino microcontroller, and servo motors to create an unique interface. Notes C through B are controlled with a computer keyboard, while the playing of the notes is reflected in both a Flash display and by the actual physical device, consisting of 7 liquid-filled flute glasses and mallets. Songs can be recorded and played back on the device, and are given a fun, randomized name. We really enjoyed conceptualizing and making this project, and hope you will have a great time using it!
